Dear colleagues,

On behalf the organising committee I am pleased to inform you that registrations are now open for the 2017 Champalimaud Research Symposium<https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsymposium.research.fchampalimaud.org%2F&data=01%7C01%7Crita.sousa-nunes%40kcl.ac.uk%7Cc966c17839bc448891dd08d45c94f29e%7C8370cf1416f34c16b83c724071654356%7C0&sdata=Oqfq26jR%2BaFz9KkTvGBhz0kJcFeQNZrp8Jc5PfRJSV0%3D&reserved=0>, to be help in Lisbon, Portugal from the 9th to the 11th of October 2017.

This Symposium is a very special event as it will serve as the inaugural conference to launch the “Champalimaud Biology of Systems and Metastasis Research Program<https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fresearch.fchampalimaud.org%2Fen%2Fabout-us%2Fvision%2Fccp-vision%2F&data=01%7C01%7Crita.sousa-nunes%40kcl.ac.uk%7Cc966c17839bc448891dd08d45c94f29e%7C8370cf1416f34c16b83c724071654356%7C0&sdata=K2lIASEI%2FLGmPT9PDpkNPBX1hw5wfIrtvjaABSOMALg%3D&reserved=0>”. This new research program, together with the neuroscience program, aims at establishing the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown<https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fchampalimaud.org%2F&data=01%7C01%7Crita.sousa-nunes%40kcl.ac.uk%7Cc966c17839bc448891dd08d45c94f29e%7C8370cf1416f34c16b83c724071654356%7C0&sdata=sHL8uMPX6XGIiPaEI1vvGYHOMphLsjvdEEXRmUKfjRE%3D&reserved=0> as a premier biomedical research effort.

The Symposium will take the form of a scientific meeting, with 14 invited speakers, several talks selected from abstracts and 3 poster sessions. As a theme for this inaugural symposium we chose the theme “Physiology: from development to disease” and we are very excited that Professor Bob Horvitz<https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fweb.mit.edu%2Fhorvitz%2Fwww%2Fhorvitzlab.html&data=01%7C01%7Crita.sousa-nunes%40kcl.ac.uk%7Cc966c17839bc448891dd08d45c94f29e%7C8370cf1416f34c16b83c724071654356%7C0&sdata=UVBkkprY7Y6JiZ1DpTfjINCoKhWvePCfYWmhVs4d59Q%3D&reserved=0> has kindly agreed to be our keynote speaker.

In this year’s Symposium the diverse list of distinguished speakers will reflect the vision for our new research programme. It will focus on modern physiology in development, aging, immunity and cancer, bridging cutting edge biology research with disease oriented research. For this inaugural event we aim at showcasing the best work done worldwide in these topics to set a high standard for future events.

The Symposium will be held at our Centre on the waterfront in central Lisbon. We expect that the unique venue, together with an exciting list of invited speakers, will foster a lively and stimulating scientific meeting.
