A Research Associate position is available in the Peters laboratory, School of Biosciences, Cardiff University.
The endo-lysosomal and macroautophagy systems are critical for supporting healthy cells, however the means by which diverse cell types organise and maintain these processes is only partially understood. The successful applicant will conduct a study entitled “Identifying neuron specific regulators of endo-lysosome / autophagosome organisation and dynamics”. Using a combination of high-resolution fluorescent imaging and unbiased screening in Drosophila melanogaster coupled with studies in human cell culture, the project aims to understand neuron specific organisation and regulation of the endo-lyosomal and macroautophagy systems, and how neurons adapt these mechanisms to age, stress and neurodegeneration.
The successful applicant will be hosted in a lab funded through an MRC Momentum Award for dementia research, based in the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) at Cardiff University. The UK DRI is a multicentre institute based throughout 6 universities across the UK funded by a £250million investment from the Medical Research Council (MRC), Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK. The UK DRI aims to improve our ability to identify the underlying causes, diagnose, treat and prevent all forms of dementia.
This post is full time (35 hours per week), available from 1st August 2018 and is fixed term until 31th July 2020.
Salary: £32,548 - £38,833 per annum (Grade 6).
