Dear LIDo Network,

GSK have asked LIDo to circulate news that there looking for 20 excellent young scientists to join their Biopharm centres for drug discovery, drug development and drug manufacturing. See:

Apparently GSK is in the middle of a very large restructuring of its entire R&D activities as it positions itself for the future. We’ve been told by separate channels that they may aim to develop treatments for diseases that have an association with the immune system, where there is a human genetic validation on the target. They will use the most appropriate modality, small molecule, biologic or cell and gene therapy for the disease. They are also keen to develop capacity in supporting areas of technology with big data, machine learning and artificial intelligence being a priority. Presumably they will need specialists who are also comfortable working across disciplines and who have well developed mathematical, computation and/or statistical skills and interests (backed up with recent training). You will no doubt realise that this describes many LIDo PhD students and we have written to them directly with this announcement but some may also benefit from you calling their attention to the message.

However, you will also have PhD students from other programmes in your labs and probably post-docs who may be interested. Could you please circulate this news to them as well?

We’re keen to continue LIDo’s good relations with GSK and to encourage all other interactions that may benefit from the involvement of LIDo students. We’re naturally very pleased that GSK have targeted LIDo specifically with this news and have decided to “beat the bushes” here in London in their search for talent. Hopefully you can help.

Best wishes,
Geraint
