Subject: UKRI-BBSRC Survey on the use of models in research

Dear Colleagues,

We are writing to inform you of a survey that UKRI-BBSRC has recently opened on the use of models in research. We are inviting researchers to provide their opinions and insight into the types of models currently used in research, and those that might be used in future. This includes the use of animals, tissues, cells and computational models. Whilst we believe that these may be most often used in human and animal research, opinions are sought from all disciplines and backgrounds, therefore we would invite you all to participate. In addition, if you could assist us by passing on this invitation to any colleagues that you think may be interested as well, that would be greatly appreciated. The survey is open now, and will remain open until 28 June.

The purpose of the consultation is to gain a better understanding of this complex area: examine the use of models in research and innovation, identify barriers that might be stifling this area, identify strengths and weaknesses of currently available models in research and define unmet needs in this area. In particular the survey will be used to inform future UKRI-BBSRC strategy and will be presented to the UKRI-BBSRC Bioscience for an Integrated Understanding of Health’s Strategy Advisory Panel. Subsequently a report will be published online.
