Dear Colleagues
Please see below for a very important message from Public Health England to help with the Coronavirus Pandemic work.
We are looking for
1) experienced DNA extractors/qPCR people
2) people who have experience technically validating qPCR data
3) HCPC registered staff Biomedical or Clinical Scientists to issue reports
4) CL3 trained individuals
Who could be seconded to PHE Colindale in blocks of time if possible to be trained and help - possibly 5d on 5 d off if that would work, including weekends
Other things for which we may need additional people:
1) serology assay development and testing going forward
2) genomics assistance
3) platform validation
4) viral isolation/positive control materials
If interested in helping out please email Vicki Chalker <Vicki.Chalker at phe.gov.uk<mailto:Vicki.Chalker at phe.gov.uk>>

Dear All
this email is not about flies but CoVID-19. I am writing to this forum because it is biggest forum I am in touch with.
I am wondering whether like me you are surprised about the decision of the government to do minimal testing for the virus : effectively they test only those that are ill and in hospital. WHO is urging all countries to do as much testing as possible.
The scientific community would have a very large capacity to carry out tests for the virus, and we could set up a system where members of the public could send swabs to be tested. Of course there are very major logistic steps to take but I think it is case of 'where there is a will there is a way’
Probably this kind of thinking is happening in other online groups (please point me to them if it is the case) but I was wondering what anybody thinks about this and whether they would be interested in forming a group prepared to take on such an initiative.
Regards
Stefano

Dear LFMers,
Sadly, we have taken the decision to cancel the March and April LFMs, which will probably not come as a surprise to all of you.
We will monitor the situation and will make a decision on the May and June meetings so that we can update you as soon as possible.
In the meantime, best wishes to all of you during these trying times!
Kind regards,
Nic, Isabel and Lucy
