Happy New Year! The January LFM will be next week on Wednesday 10 January at 5.30pm. It will be a hybrid event (see zoom link below). If you are attending in person, please arrive between 5.15 and 5.30pm. You will first need to check in with the security desk near the seminar rooms, who will have your name on a guest list if you are subscribed to the LFM mailing list.  Any attendees not subscribed will need to grab one of the Crick scientists who will be waiting at the entrance, and they will then help take you through security.

Dear All,
I am a group leader at QMUL, and also a lecturer at a programme between QMUL and Nanchang University in China. This year, my co-lecturer (each of us teaches a class of 125 students in parallel) resigned and I need some help as we won?t have time to recruit a new person for teaching in Nanchang, starting 9 march. We teach embryology to 2nd year medical student. We stay in China for 2 weeks, twice, in march, and also at end of April/early May.
I thought that young PIs, or postdocs in this community may be interested.
Let me know if interested and I will explain more on the job and the travelling requirements, and the payments (see some indications of that below).
Also, may I ask that you share it with your network?

It would be something like this:
Business class trip, and 5 star hotel in nanchang, all covered.
4 weeks teaching ? 140 hours
Coursework marking ? 52 hours
Exam first marking ? 52 hours
Exam second marking ? 28 hours

Total 272 hours @QMUL Point 34 ?25.17 per hour at the moment. There is also extra payment instead of annual leave on top.

If I email you out of hours don?t feel you need to respond outside of your working hours

Subscriptions are still open for the 20th edition of the Italian Drosophila Conference.

It will be held in Milan, March 6-8, 2024. The meeting brings together the Italian Drosophila Community and is coorganized by Erika Don? (CNR-Institute of Neuroscience), Simona Polo (IFOM) and me. The confirmed keynote speakers will be Florence Besse (IBV, Nizza) and Aurelio Teleman (DKFZ, Heidelberg).

I hope some of you will consider it. Italy hosts and small but very active fly community and the meeting is a very informal and pleasant way to get in contact with potential new collaborators and prospective students and postdoc with great training. Milan is a vibrant city, a hub for biomedicine and is easy to reach via the city airport (LIN). It is also a great destination if you want to extend your stay to the weekend.
