[1] Postdoctoral Position
(Architecture and function of the fly Drosophila brain)

The Ito Group from the Institute of Zoology at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Cologne invites applications. Starting time will be Autumn/Winter 2017/2018 (exact date can be negotiated) with a weekly working time of 39,83 hours (100% position). The initial contract is limited for 3 years. Tasks:
The successful candidate is expected to perform original research for understanding the architecture and function of the brain using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as a model. The research includes systematic visualization and identification of novel neuronal circuits, imaging-based functional analyses, behavioural analyses with selective manipulation of specific neurons (functional blocking, activating or altering), etc. Particular emphasis will be placed on identifying and analysing neurons in the brain regions that have escaped from detailed investigation in the past.

Your Profile:
- Ph.D. in biology and related field and a strong interest in neuroscience
- Knowledge and experiences in the neuroscientific research using Drosophila or otherinsects.
- Knowledge and experiences in bioimage analysis, database, or programming will bepreferred.
- Candidates should be creative and capable of developing a competitive researchproject while working in autonomy under the supervision of a team leader.

The University of Cologne is an equal opportunities employer. Applications of women are especially encouraged. Handicapped candidates will be given priority in case of equal professional qualification.

Please send your CV with publication list, a statement of research interests and explanation of your expertise, and names and contact addresses of two possible references electronically as one PDF-file to Prof. Dr. Kei Ito: bewerbung.ito.lab at uni-koeln.de<mailto:bewerbung.ito.lab at uni-koeln.de>
