Dear Fly folks,

Does anyone know of an alternative to a fly pooter (aka aspirator), that doesn't involve mouth pipetting, which works for moving around individual flies prior to behavioural experiments? We have always used a pooter but have recently been obliged to stop as it involves mouth pipetting. We can cool the flies to temporarily anaesthetise them (or obviously use CO2) but this may well affect their behaviour, especially for more immediate assays.

If you want to email me direct (Joseph_matthew.bateman at kcl.ac.uk<mailto:Joseph_matthew.bateman at kcl.ac.uk>) that might be best to prevent jamming up people's inboxes. I can always send out a list of responses.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Joe
