Dear Drosophilists,
Dear colleagues!
The fly as such does not need much introduction; it has served the scientific effort (and the careers of scientists) long enough one might think. But still ..... given the sheer multitude of unknowns (both known and unknown ones) and the potential of, and need for, innovation and disruption... I would suggest to take a second or third look at what. Maybe it is time to reinvent - or recreate - the fly. This can take many shapes and forms. One of which is the avatar. The 'humanised' fly, if you like, which bypasses (or flies around) many technical and regulatory hurdles put in the path of a deeper understanding of life, or aspects of the human condition, such as deafness.
* We want to make a step in this direction (sketched in coarse brush strokes here: A burden shared: The evolutionary case for studying human deafness in Drosophila<https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S037859552400100X>)
* And we would love to welcome a talented and motivated Drosophila research scientist (postdoc level, initially for 3 years but with a possible 3-year extension subject to positive evaluation of mutual interest and benefit) in our team at the University of Oldenburg<https://uol.de/en>, Germany.
* Oldenburg University is the upcoming life scientific research university in Germany (focus on neurosensory systems), recently awarded three Excellence Clusters and aiming to become an Excellence University outright. The Excellence Strategy<https://www.dfg.de/en/research-funding/funding-initiative/excellence-strategy/programme-exc-exu> is the highest tier of scientific selection and support in Germany. It offers multiple opportunities for leading-edge projects and individual careers.
If you are
* A talented and ambitious Drosophila researcher with strong background in Drosophila genetics, and state-of-the-art mutagenesis (maybe even including bidirectional optogenetics for neural imaging and manipulation, but that is an optional ) who is
* interested in helping build a new sensory genetics platform (including 2 permanent technicians , 2 permanent senior research scientists and one PI) and if you are also
* interested in the function and dysfunction, health and disease, rise and fall of our sensory abilities
then don't hesitate to contact us, send your CV, or just ask for more information ..or simply apply via the below links (note only successfully submitted applications can be considered in the end).
